Le Sibille di Casa Romei rappresentano un suggestivo esempio di decorazione murale di un ambiente signorile della metà del Quattrocento.

I lunghi e delicati restauri effettuati nel corso di tutto il ventesimo secolo non hanno potuto tuttavia reintegrare le fattezze e i dettagli delle figurazioni, offrendoci un pretesto per richiamare un procedimento di semplificazione della figura femminile che segna la cifra stilistica dell’opera di Paolo Spinoglio.

All’interno del secondo cortile di Casa Romei, dal 2019 diventato il Giardino delle Sibille, dodici figure femminili si stagliano contro le spalliere di rose antiche. Sono i tre gruppi di terracotta che Paolo Spinoglio, tra il 1994 ed il 2001, dedica al suo immaginario di donna. Eleganti sagome che si fondono a gruppi, che dialogano, che si scontrano ma che sembrano nate per evocare le profetesse scelte nel Quattrocento per le pareti di Casa Romei.

The Sibyls of Casa Romei represent an evocative example of mural decoration of a mid-15th-century stately home.

The long and delicate restorations carried out throughout the 20th century have not, however, been able to reintegrate the features and details of the figurations, giving us a pretext to recall a procedure of simplification of the female figure that marks the stylistic signature of Paolo Spinoglio's work.

Inside the second courtyard of Casa Romei, which from 2019 will become the Garden of the Sibyls, twelve female figures stand out against the espaliers of antique roses.
These are the three terracotta groups that Paolo Spinoglio, between 1994 and 2001, dedicated to his imagery of women. Elegant silhouettes that merge into groups, that dialogue, that clash, but that seem to be born to evoke the prophetesses chosen in the 15th century for the walls of Casa Romei.
